BroadcastLogger: why I built a separate logger

The obvious thing would have been to build compliance logging into BroadcastMate. I deliberately didn't, for two reasons.

It should record what actually went to air

A logger built into the play-out system records what the play-out system thinks it played. That's not the same thing. If a fader was down, a processor misbehaved, or someone was live in the studio, only an off-air recording captures the truth — and the truth is exactly what you need when answering a complaint.

Not everyone wants to change play-out systems

Plenty of stations have a play-out system that works fine and no appetite for replacing it, but still have a logging problem. Keeping BroadcastLogger separate means it works alongside whatever you're already running.

So it records off-air, independently, and doesn't care what's upstream.
